Description: More Than a Sport was established in 1989 by three college students on a trip to Africa. They realized the amount of poverty in the continent and decided to make a difference. When they got back to the states they started More Than A Sport. They saw the love the children in Africa had for sports so they started raising money. Since then, many people have joined the organisation and sponsors from all over the world have helped our cause. Companies such as Fifa, Nike, and Adidas have helped us raise the funds to pay for the expenses. College students, athletes, and everyday people can help. Target Audience Our target audience are impoverished, but our main target audience is young people all over the continent of Africa where people can not effort to buy their own balls or other things needed to play a sport. By providing the people with these things we hope to keep people happy and maybe even give a few kids the chance to make it into a professional league.
More Than a Sport Goal Our goal is that people all over the world should be able to play the sport they dream about doing. We want people to help us make a better world for kids who plays sports in countries and families that does not have the money to buy their own sports materials. People can help us reach our goal faster by donating money and spreading the word about our cause.
More Than a Sport Background and History More than a Sport was established in 1989 by three college students on a trip to Africa. They all loved to play sports. When they saw so many kids in Africa, who didn’t have the opportunity to play sports. The three students started this organization. The organization was for those people in Africa who needs help getting money to start sports organizations and needs help buying stuff used to play sports, such as balls, bats, goal, shoes etc. We have already had a ton of good success stories for our work. We are working on making future events to expand our organization even further.
More Than a Sport Success Stories We have helped people in Africa play the sports they love. We put up good soccer goals and gave the people nice soccer shoes and jerseys. For people that like to play basketball we put up nice quality basketball hoops and provided shoes and offical jerseys for the people.
More Than a Sport Future Projects Walk For Africa- Since 1997, More Than A Sport has sponsored a 5 mile walk through major cities in both The United States and Europe to raise awareness for our cause. We plan to continue this tradition next year in Boston, Massachusetts.
We also plan to start a new tradition. The plan is to have a huge festival in a country who bids the highest that will be attended by athletes from all around the world annually. People will be able to have a meet and greet with their heroes and maybe even have a pick up game. It will be a 3 day festival over the weekend that has music as well as sports.
